Mandatory One-Year Moratorium on Insurance Non-Renewals and Cancellations

Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued a mandatory one-year moratorium on insurance non-renewals and cancellations for zip codes in areas directly affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires.

The California's Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is coordinating with several California state agencies and local governments to ensure displaced residents have access to shelters and vital services.

What to Do After a Wildfire

  • Wait for clearance from local officials before returning to your property.
  • Document damage with photos and contact your insurance provider immediately.
  • Seek federal assistance if needed - FEMA Disaster Assistance: Visit disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.

Recovery Resources

  • Access vital records, such as birth or marriage certificates, for free if lost due to wildfires. Contact (800) 201-8999 or email recorder@rrcc.lacounty.gov.
  • For housing assistance, contact the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority at (213) 683-3333.

EDD Unemployment Benefits Waiting Period Waived

The Employment Development Department has waived the one-week waiting period for regular unemployment benefit claims for individuals impacted by fires. The fastest way to apply for unemployment benefits is through the myEDD app.

Employers affected by the wildfires may request up to two-month extension from EDD to file state payroll reports and/or deposit state payroll taxes without penalty or interest.


Medi-Cal Information

Medi-Cal Members impacted by wildfires who live in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties may temporarily fill prescriptions at any Medi-Cal enrolled pharmacy. Patients and providers are encouraged to utilize the map below to identify local pharmacies that are operating for Medi-Cal patients.


IRS Tax Deadline Extension

The Internal Revenue Service is extending the deadline filing deadline for taxpayers and businesses impacted by Southern California wildfires to October 15, 2025. This applies to both federal and state taxes.

Taxpayers have the option of reconstructing records after a disaster. The more accurately a loss is estimated, the more loan and/or grant money may be available. The IRS may waive the $43 user fee to obtain transcripts and returns. You must write the appropriate disaster designation, such as "Palisades Fire", in red letters across the top of Forms 4506-T and 4506.


LA County Assessor

Property damaged or destroyed by the windstorms or wildfires may qualify for temporary property tax relief through the Misfortune and Calamity program.


Report Suspected Price Gouging

Price gouging during a state of emergency is illegal. The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) advises business owners, lodging operators and businesses associated with any declared emergency in LA County that they must stay in compliance with state and Los Angeles County laws that protect consumers from price gouging.


Air Quality

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health urges everyone in areas with visible smoke or unhealthy air quality to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure.

  • LA County Department of Mental Health offers a 24/7 Mental Health Helpline for Emergency and Clinical Services at 1 (800) 854-7771.

Transportation

  • Metro Los Angeles is offering free fares system wide while fire conditions exist.
  • Report road blockages from trees, power lines, and other debris on the MyLA311 website or by calling 3-1-1.
