L.A. River Community Event

Please come and join us for a fun, family-friendly event where we’ll discuss the future of the L.A. River and how we can move forward with unlocking the potential and revitalizing this great resource.

I’ll be joined by Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, Long Beach City Councilmember Al Austin II, and the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and we want to hear your ideas and input from community members as we work to improve the future of our L.A. River. 

There will be family activities with trail exploring and light refreshments so please join us.

L.A. River Upper Segment Revitalization Plan Kick-Off

Please join Supervisor Hilda Solis, the City of Cudahy, the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, the L.A. County Bicycle Coalition and me for an event to kick-off the revitalization of the Upper Segment of the L.A. River. 

There will be biking, running, and walking along the L.A. River bikeway and the opportunity to discuss state legislation and issues of importance to the community.

Southeast Los Angeles Economic Possibilities Summit

I am joining with the California Community Foundation and the Pat Brown Institute at Cal State LA to host and invite you to the Southeast Los Angeles Economic Possibilities Summit.

This Summit will present and discuss the key findings from a recently completed economic and demographic assets report, which focused on the eleven incorporated cities and four unincorporated communities of Southeast Los Angeles.  The Summit audience will include more than 100 elected, business, labor, and community leaders in the study area.  Beacon Economics will provide an in-depth overview of the research findings, followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

I have been working with both organizations on this important event in order to assess prevalent issues in the Southeast and with the goal of identifying tangible solutions for our community.  This research has provided an opportunity take inventory of the human, housing, transportation, and business assets in Southeast Los Angeles and shows that it is returning to be the kernel of possibilities to achieve the American dream.

As part of Proposition 1, the Department of Water Resources is required to spend no less than 10% of Prop.1 Chapter 7 funds to ensure that Disadvantaged and Economically Distressed Communities are involved in the Integrated Regional Water Management Plan. $51 Million have been allocated statewide of which $9.8 Million has been set aside for the Los Angeles Region.

Participants will be informed and have an opportunity to provide input to ensure disadvantaged communities are beneficiary of the funding allocated through this process and have a deeper understanding on how they can influence and participate in this undertaking.

LA River Bike Ride & Run – Saturday, August 20, 2016

Come join Assemblymember Anthony Rendon, Supervisor Hilda Solis, and the River and Mountains Conservancy for a bike ride and run along the LA River on Saturday August 20.

The Bike Ride & Run will start at:

Update on Exide Clean-up

This Thursday, June 9, the Assembly Environmental Safety & Toxic Materials Committee will hold a hearing on lead testing and clean-up in our communities near Exide.

As you may know, the Legislature and Governor recently approved $176.6 million to speed up testing and clean-up efforts in areas surrounding the former Exide battery plant.

This is your opportunity to share your comments and experiences with state officials so we can ensure funds are going to help those in need.
