(Sacramento) - Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) convened the first meeting of the Speaker’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education to discuss California’s current childcare landscape, including subsidy programs, Proposition 98 funded programs, and access to childcare. The Speaker formed the Commission to improve results for California’s youngest learners and their families. It’s tasked with identifying ways to create a more sustainable early learning system and update an outdated funding plan that has been unable to meet the demand for child care access in California. Among those taking part in the Commission’s first meeting were Commission Co-chairs Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) and Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento); Nina Buthee, Executive Director, CA Child Development Administrators Association; and Tonia McMillian, SEIU Local 99 member and child care provider. Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
