Assembly Democrats Pass “Road Map” for Climate Change Policies

(Sacramento) – Led by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) and Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella), the Asembly approved Assembly Bill 197, a companion measure to Senate Bill 32 – the historic climate change legislation approved a day earlier by the Assembly.  AB 197, the Climate Equity and Transparency Act, brings about greater equity, transparency, and public accountability on future climate change policies to make sure those policies address the health and economic impacts of climate policy on vulnerable populations. AB 197 also creates a Standing Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change to oversee climate change activities at the Air Resources Board (ARB). “In passing SB 32, we drew up a road map. AB 197 is the vehicle that gets us there,” said Speaker Rendon.  “California’s economy has flourished as our air and water quality has improved,” said Assemblymember Garcia. “However, these economic and environmental benefits have not yet reached all of the state’s communities, especially those disadvantaged communities that are most harmed by the impacts of climate change.” Here’s more from the Speaker and Assemblymember Garcia in this Assembly Access video.
