SACRAMENTO— Speaker Emeritus Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) announced today that he will chair the newly formed Select Committee on Happiness and Public Policy Outcomes. The Select Committee on Happiness will host informational hearings to focus on factors influencing happiness, the role the Legislature and other governmental entities can play in increasing Californians' happiness, and steps we can take as a body to promote a happier, stronger, and more fulfilled state.
"Happiness is a critically under-studied issue in the Assembly, one that has the potential to compel us to rethink how, and why, we create policy in the first place," said Speaker Emeritus Rendon. "The Select Committee on Happiness will allow us to hear from experts on what we know about the causes and impacts of happiness, how government plays a role, and what policy solutions the Assembly should consider. Instead of treating happiness as a byproduct of policymaking, we have the opportunity to treat it as the goal of policymaking, one as worthy of focus as the other pressing issues facing California."
The first informational hearing of the Select Committee on Happiness and Public Policy Outcomes will be held on Tuesday, March 12, at 1:30pm. More information will be released in the coming days.
