SACRAMENTO— Assembly Speaker Rendon (D-Lakewood) today announced he has appointed Angélica Salas and John Kim to the Racial Equity Commission.
"I'm delighted to be able to appoint two statewide leaders, specifically Angélica Salas and John Kim to the Racial Equity Commission," said Speaker Rendon. "Their experience, expertise, and commitment to uplifting the voices of marginalized communities will be an asset to the Racial Equity Commission and our state."
Angelica Salas is the Executive Director of CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights). A member since 1995, Salas ascended to be CHIRLA's Executive Director in 1999. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement and the National Partnership for New Americans. She holds a B.A. in History and Sociology, as well as an Honorary Doctorate from Occidental College.
John Kim is President and CEO of Catalyst California. Kim served as the Executive Director of the Korean Community Center of the East Bay since 1999 until he joined Catalyst California in 2002. He also currently serves as a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County's Commission of Children and Families.
Compensation for this appointment is reimbursement for necessary, pre-approved expenses incurred in connection with their duties.
