SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) released the following statement after the California State Transportation Agency awarded L.A. Metro funding for the construction of the West Santa Ana Light Rail Transit Corridor:
“Today’s announcement that funding has been granted for the West Santa Ana Transit Corridor is a big victory for Southeast Los Angeles County. This project will relieve enormous pressure on our roads and freeways and make it easier for the people I represent to get to work and school. It also includes air quality improvements and benefits for disadvantaged and low income communities. I thank the California Transportation Agency for being so responsive to L.A. Metro, Eco-Rapid Transit and all of us who have partnered to advance the West Santa Ana Transit Corridor.
“Funding was the first challenge we’ve been working on in the Southeast – the second is determining placement of the actual light rail stops. Because light rail service can help the Southeast achieve its potential to become an economic and cultural hub, we will be working just as hard to ensure that our communities benefit from the placement decisions to be made.”
