SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) released the following statement after the Board of Regents of the University of California released its fact-finding report on audit interference by the UC Office of the President:
“The Assembly has worked to increase accountability at the University of California through the budget, policy, and state audit processes. Today's action by the UC Regents to admonish President Napolitano for her poor judgment and for her office's interference with the audit is welcome and necessary, as is the Board’s consideration of structural changes to improve accountability, which will be voted on in January.
“However, these steps are not the end of the story. The Assembly will continue to perform its oversight role and keep the pressure on to ensure that UC serves the people of California effectively, efficiently, and ethically. As Speaker and a UC Regent, I fully support this ongoing strong oversight by the Assembly, and urge the Regents to continue along a similarly vigorous path.”
