SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) released the following statement after the Assembly passed a series of measures aimed at addressing California’s affordable housing crisis:
“Today we took a step toward addressing a housing crisis that has been plaguing California for years. The package of bills we approved today addresses funding, project streamlining, stricter enforcement, and real accountability – all the affordable housing elements necessary to help more Californians pay the rent or buy a house. This isn’t a package built of straw or twigs – this package is brick solid.
“I commend all our Assembly colleagues who have been part of the lengthy and thorough deliberations that went into this comprehensive effort, especially Assemblymembers David Chiu, Richard Bloom, and Jacqui Irwin.
“As we did with transportation, with cap and trade and air quality, and with a budget that includes increases for early childhood education and the Earned Income Tax Credit along with record education spending and record reserves, here in California we are stepping up and getting the job done.”
In addition to the measures approved tonight (SB 2, SB 3, SB 35, SB 166, SB 167, and SB 540), the Assembly will vote tomorrow on several additional Assembly bills currently pending in the Senate.
