SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) today honored the Southeast-Rio Vista YMCA, a Maywood multi-service organization, as the 2017 Nonprofit of the Year for the 63rd Assembly District.
“The YMCA in Maywood is the epitome of the role of nonprofits,” Speaker Rendon said. “This is an organization that provides direct services, like preschool, but is also taking on a role as a gateway to government-provided services. Although the federal administration seems to be telling some Californians they aren’t welcome, the predominantly Spanish-speaking residents of my district are comfortable turning to the YMCA.”
The Southeast-Rio Vista YMCA has served the area since 1954 and moved to the City of Maywood in 2013. It offers a variety of recreation, food, child development, community information and immigration assistance programs. The YMCA also provided emergency shelter for residents after the toxic explosion and fire of a plant in Maywood in 2016.
Rendon represents the 63rd Assembly District, which includes the cities and communities of Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, North Long Beach, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, and South Gate.
