SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) has announced his appointment of Murtaza Baxamusa of San Diego to the No Place Like Home Advisory Committee.
“Murtaza Baxamusa has an extensive background in planning and housing,” Rendon said. “His expertise and commitment will be extremely valuable as the Advisory Committee helps guide the No Place Like Home program in its mission of creating permanent homes for some of the most vulnerable Californians.”
Baxamusa is the Director of Planning & Development for the San Diego Building Trades Family Housing Corporation. He is also an adjunct instructor at USC, a board member of Housing California, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
The 15-member No Place Like Home Advisory Committee includes state agency officials and appointees of the Legislature and Governor.
The Advisory Committee advises the California Housing and Community Development Department in implementing the No Place Like Home Program, which was enacted in 2016. The No Place Like Home program includes $2 billion in bond proceeds to develop permanent supportive housing for persons who are in need of mental health services and are experiencing homelessness, chronic homelessness, or who are at risk of chronic homelessness.
Baxamusa, 43, fills a seat on the board reserved for a member of an affordable housing organization. He serves a pleasure term, and no compensation is stated for the position.
