Imam Delivers Prayer to California State Assembly

SACRAMENTO — At the invitation of Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount), Imam Mohamed Abdul-Azeez delivered today's prayer at Assembly floor session.

Imam Abdul-Azeez is the founder of Tarbiya Institute, an Islamic organization based in Roseville, Calif. that focuses its efforts on restoring the authentic image of Islam and the empowerment of the Muslim individual through perpetual personal progress.

Imam Abdul-Azeez's prayer, as prepared for delivery:

“Almighty God,

“These men and women assembled here to serve the people of our state, to reinforce our values, and lend support to the cause of justice. I ask you to bless them, increase their wisdom and purify their intentions.

“We pray that through your grace they gain the vision to see clearly, the courage to act rightly, the humility to consider all sides of issues, the love to accept disagreement, and the faith to persevere through discouragement and adversity.

“I pray to you, Lord, to enable our brothers and sisters at the California Assembly to put the interest of our state, and our people, before personal interest and political consideration.

“We thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to serve and to grow in that service.

“Amen.”
