Speaker Rendon Statement on UC Fee Increases

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) released the following statement after the University of California Board of Regents voted to increase student tuition:

“I understand the growth pressures California’s universities are facing. At the same time, we have to do everything possible to keep college affordable. That includes preserving, and even working to expand, financial aid programs like the Middle Class Scholarship. Recent figures show about 50,000 California students have been helped by those scholarships. A student receiving one of these scholarships saves as much as $20,000 over four years at UC, and $9,000 at CSU. That goes a long way toward keeping the promise to Californians that college will be in reach of every eligible low-income and middle class student.”
