Speaker Rendon annouces appointment of Richard J. Ramirez

SACRAMENTO—Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) today announced the appointment of Richard J. Ramirez to a non-attorney position on the Board of Trustees of the State Bar of California.

“Throughout his decades-long civil service career, Richard has successfully led public agencies through prosperous and challenging times, including through times of transition,” Rendon said. “I am confident Richard will be a voice for transparency and public protection on the Board of Trustees during this pivotal time for the State Bar.”

Ramirez served a distinguished career as the city manager for a number of California municipalities, including for the cities of American Canyon from 2006 to 2011, Hemet from 1998 to 2000, Paso Robles from 1991 to 1997, and Lincoln from 1981 to 1991. He served as assistant city manager for community services for the city of Sacramento from 2000 to 2006. Ramirez earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California. He replaces Gwen Moore, a former member of the Assembly, on the Board.

“I thank former Assemblymember Gwen Moore for her seven years of service on the Board of Trustees,” Rendon said. “She used her influential voice to try and make the State Bar a better advocate for the public. Her dedicated work on the board reflects the high standards of her lifetime in public service.”
