Gun Bills are Common Sense Solution to Gun Violence, Says Speaker Rendon
Statements from Legislative Leaders
SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) today released the following statements on the Legislature’s passage of the nation’s strongest gun-violence prevention measures.
Senate Leader de León: “As is often the case, California leads the nation in progressive, sensible legislation. Today is no exception. We are sending to the Governor the strongest and most comprehensive set of gun-violence prevention measures in a generation. When enacted, they will surely save lives. Criminals will find it harder to get their hands on guns and ammunition. With the Governor’s signature, California once again will be a beacon of hope for the rest of the nation to follow.”
Assembly Speaker Rendon: “Today the California Legislature took sweeping, common sense actions to prevent gun violence. We took away the favorite tools of mass shooters, we established sensible limits on the sale of guns and ammunition, and we strengthened laws to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who should not have them. Every loophole we close takes a finger off a trigger. And today we showed that despite the NRA and other apologists and deniers, the tide is turning toward a reasoned approach and real action to prevent gun violence.”
The bills sent to Governor Brown’s desk include:
AB 857 (Cooper) ghost guns
AB 1135 (Levine) bullet buttons
AB 1176 (Cooper) gun theft
AB 1511 (Santiago) gun lending
AB 1673 (Gipson) ghost guns
AB 1674 (Santiago) one long gun a month
AB 1695 (Bonta) false reporting
