Sacramento, CA – Assemblyman Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) made the following statement after Governor Brown and legislative leaders announced a finalized 2015-16 budget:

I commend Speaker Atkins and Assembly Budget Chair Weber for their leadership in negotiating a budget with Governor Brown that practices fiscal restraint while making key investments in services that benefit working families, students, and the neediest among us.

I am particularly pleased to see the expansion of child care and preschool to nearly 14,000 additional children.

As a former executive director of Head Start programs, I saw the devastating cuts made during the Great Recession to licensed childcare providers. These reinvestments will ensure providers have the resources to serve kids during critical times for childhood development.

Assemblyman Anthony Rendon is serving in his second term representing the 63rd Assembly District, which includes the cities and communities of Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, North Long Beach, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, and South Gate. Rendon is chair of the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce and serves on the following committees: Water, Parks and Wildlife; Natural Resources; Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security; and Appropriations.
