Sacramento, CA – Assemblyman Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood), chair of the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce, made the following statement after today’s Assembly Committee on Utilities and Commerce oversight hearing of the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC):
Today, the Assembly initiated our review into the affairs of the Public Utilities Commission, particularly with regard to the Commission’s questionable settlement processes, transparency and accountability to the public.
I am encouraged that PUC President Michael Picker provided assurances that he is committed to making improvements to procedures and processes to modernize the Commission and improve transparency.
It is my intention that today’s oversight hearing represented a renewed commitment to legislative oversight that my colleagues and I pledge to sustain for years to come.
In the coming weeks, we will take the testimony from this hearing to determine prudent legislative solutions to ensure the PUC regains its footing as an ethical organization that the public can trust to have its best interests at heart.
