Assembly Member Anthony Rendon Statement on Governor’s Budget

For immediate release:

Sacramento, CA – In response to the Governor’s release of his 2013-14 Budget, Assembly Member Anthony Rendon issued the following statement.

“I applaud Governor Brown for his commitment to education, especially to students who are learning English as a second language.  My district contains many of the communities with students that the Governor is trying to help.  I believe that the Governor’s focus on improving K-12 and Higher Education will be pivotal in preparing students to meet the workforce needs of our state in the future.

Furthermore, I am pleased to see that state assisted childcare is basically held harmless in the budget.  More work needs to be done to ensure that working families and single parents have access to affordable childcare in order to be able to go to work and productively participate in their communities.

Lastly, access to clean and reliable water is not yet a reality in some of the communities in my district.  As such, I am pleased that the Governor’s budget includes direction the State Water Resources Control Board to recommend solutions to provide disadvantaged communities with safe, affordable, and reliable water.

I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Assembly Budget Committee and the Governor on crafting a final budget bill that reflects the needs and values of the families in our state.”

Assembly Member Anthony Rendon was elected to the Legislature in November of 2012 to represent the 63rd Assembly District.  The 63rd Assembly District covers the cities and communities of Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, North Long Beach, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, and South Gate.  Assembly Member Rendon serves on the following committees:  Budget; Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security; Joint Legislative Audit Committee; Utilities and Commerce; and Water, Parks and Wildlife.
