Assemblymember Solache Hosts First-Ever Turkey Tuesday Drive-Thru Giveaway in South Gate

For immediate release:

SOUTH GATE, CA — Assemblymember José Luis Solache (AD 62) successfully hosted his first annual Turkey Tuesday Drive-Thru Giveaway today at the South Gate Park Auditorium Parking Lot, providing hundreds of local families with a free Thanksgiving turkey in partnership with the City of South Gate and the Southeast Rio Vista YMCA of Maywood.

The community-centered event welcomed a steady line of cars throughout the morning, as families from South Gate and other cities in Assembly District 62 took part in the drive-thru distribution. Volunteers, partners, and staff helped ensure families received their Thanksgiving meals quickly, safely, and efficiently.

"No family should feel the weight of the holidays alone, especially when times are tough," said Assemblymember Solache. "Turkey Tuesday is about showing our community that we see them, we support them, and we're here to make sure every household can celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity and joy. I'm grateful to all of the volunteers who made this possible."

Representatives from the YMCA were also on hand to support distribution and connect residents with local programs, youth services, and family resources.

"The Southeast Rio Vista YMCA is thrilled to partner with Assemblymember Solache for this vital food giveaway to our community members," said Southeast -Rio Vista YMCA Executive Director Gerry Salcedo. "This effort aligns with the LA Y's Feed LA initiative, which has served over 30 million pounds of food across L.A. County since 2020 -- part of our commitment to addressing systemic challenges like food insecurity. As the Center for Community Well-Being, the LA Y is committed to helping families in South Gate and across AD 62 receive the support and resources they need to celebrate this Thanksgiving."

This year marks Assemblymember Solache's first Turkey Tuesday in South Gate, with plans to expand the program in the years to come as part of his commitment to uplifting working families in Assembly District 62.
