New Laws Will Reduce Health Issues Linked to Smoking, Says Speaker Rendon
SACRAMENTO—Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) released the following statement on the signing of new tobacco laws and veto of ABX2-10:
“The tobacco bills the Governor signed will reduce the toll smoking takes on the health of Californians and the health of our state budget. By putting the toughest tobacco regulations in decades into law, California is once again showing our national leadership on important issues.
“I do believe, however, that the Governor’s veto of the bill allowing counties to put tobacco taxes on local ballots was a mistake. That veto robs local voters of the ability to address problems from health care to homelessness, and that’s a major lost opportunity for local governments up and down the state.”
Speaker Anthony Rendon represents the 63rd Assembly District, which includes the cities and communities of Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, North Long Beach, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, and South Gate.
