Assemblywoman's first annual turkey drive brings holiday cheer to families in West Athens and Lennox

Assemblywoman Autumn R. Burke (D-Inglewood) hosted her first annual Thanksgiving turkey drive this morning, meeting directly with families in the 62nd district communities of West Athens and Lennox to hand out turkeys and cranberry sauce.

"I am so thankful every day that the people of the 62nd district have trusted me to represent them and this is just one small way I can give back to them," Burke said. "Everyone should have a warm meal to share with friends and family on Thanksgiving and I am happy to help some local families make that happen."

The 62nd District office partnered with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's Youth Athletic League and local resident Henry Porter for the West Athens location, and the Lennox Coordinating Council to identify deserving families.

Earlier in the week non-profit organizations operating in the district were recommended by Burke's office to receive turkeys donated from California Water Service. Organizations--including New Journey Ministry, Venice Community Housing, U.S. Vets-Inglewood, Holly Park Homeowners Assoc., Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Gardena Chamber of Commerce, Centinela Youth Services, and Mothers in Action--were recommended based on their history of service in the district and their ability to provide Thanksgiving dinners for deserving families in their communities.
