Assemblywoman Autumn R. Burke issued the following statement regarding the Northrop Grumman’s contract with the United States Air Force to build the nation’s next long-range strike bomber:
“The 62nd Assembly District has been the hub of America’s aerospace industry for decades. Today the Air Force affirmed that is not just our past but our continued tradition by awarding a contract to Northrop Grumman to build the next generation stealth bomber.
“This contract, worth tens of billions of dollars will bring up to 1,000 jobs to California, proving once again that our constituents have the knowledge and experience to meet the unique security needs of our country.
“Northrop Grumman, which has manufacturing facilities in El Segundo, built our nation’s current generation stealth bomber, the B-2. Many of our constituents worked on that program and I am confident they will make us proud once again.
“This contract underscores the strategic importance of Los Angeles Air Force Base, also located in El Segundo. The LAAFB supports thousands of local jobs and billions of dollars of economic impact, and is at the center of an aerospace and defense ecosystem in the South Bay.
“With the Air Force Base able to work in close collaboration with its contracting partners like Northrop, our national security interests are well in hand. I am proud to represent Northrop Grumman, the Air Force Base, and their outstanding personnel.”
