Assemblywoman Autumn R. Burke (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on same-sex marriage:
“I could not be happier that the Supreme Court has finally recognized that equal protection under the law applies to loving, same-sex couples.
“There cannot be true freedom until we are all equal under the law. And as public servants, we should never discriminate or divide our constituents. We are all deserving of good schools, clean water, and a marriage license when we want one.
“I join all Californians in celebrating this momentous decision, and honoring those who fought so hard for so long to get us here.”
